Overall Equipment Effectiveness
Ontracks provides manufacturers and the continuous process industry with extensive expertise in support of their productivity goals. This experience involves getting all levels with the organization to look at productivity through a common lens and have all departments working to a common goal.
OEE for a single machine or station is a measure of equipment performance relative to design performance for the net available time the machine was scheduled to run. OEE for a product line is a measure of the overall performance of the product line relative to its design capacity. It is to be used as a trending statistic for improvements in equipment performance in the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) process. It links 3 metrics into one %: the time the machine is actually running, the quantity of products the machine is producing, and the quantity of good output. The driving force behind OEE is the communication of the measure to the individuals who can actually impact performance; this is traditionally achieved via a performance board.
The following diagram depicts the types of losses associated with any given process; these losses must be understood and measured in order to achieve true performance improvement. Looking at these losses in isolation will only have an incremental improvement, the OEE approach drives towards step changes in equipment performance.

Our approach to implementing OEE with our clients is shown in the diagram below.
